Our Mission

Veteran Action advocates for America First policies that strengthen national security and provide unwavering support for our veterans. We believe peace is achieved through unmatched strength and decisive leadership.

Our Priorities

  • Defense

Supporting President Trump’s America First foreign policy to strengthen our military.

  • Veterans

Ensuring comprehensive care, support, and opportunities for those who have served.

  • Grassroots

Building a powerful, veteran-led grassroots movement to influence policy changes.

 Defense

Veteran Action supports President Trump’s America First foreign policy agenda by promoting peace through strength. We echo President Trump’s campaign aim to strengthen and modernize our military, making it, without question, the strongest and most powerful in the world. We need to refocus our military on the fundamentals. No more woke DEI policies. We need to rebuild our military as the most lethal fighting force in world history.

  • We support President Trump and Secretary Pete Hegseth’s efforts to end the bloody and costly war in Ukraine. This is not America’s war. We will always put America First.

  • We support President Trump’s deployment of troops to secure our border.

Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border of the US, noting that: “America’s sovereignty is under attack.  Our southern border is overrun by cartels, criminal gangs, known terrorists, human traffickers, smugglers, unvetted military-age males from foreign adversaries, and illicit narcotics that harm Americans, including America.”

We agree with Secretary Pete Hegseth’s assessment of the situation: "President [Donald J.] Trump gave us a charge: 100% operational control of the southern border. Border security is national security.”

  • We support President Trump’s agenda to crush the Cartels and stop the flow of drugs and human trafficking. His administration designated eight international cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

"We will not accept them controlling that border [and] poisoning our people with fentanyl," said Secretary Pete Hegseth.

  • Our national debt is our greatest national security threat. We support the efforts of Secretary Pete Hegseth and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to cut waste, fraud, and abuse.

  • We support President Trump’s reciprocal tariff strategy to improve national defense. Building a manufacturing base in America increases our capacity to fund a major legitimate war.

Our previous China tariff strategy lacked common sense. We should never give a near-peer competitor a financial advantage. However, a fair reciprocal tariff allows a more cooperative, diplomatic relationship with China.

Veterans

We will help fulfill President Abraham Lincoln’s promise to our veterans. He famously said we need "To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan." Our country must always honor and care for those who served in uniform. Veteran Action will ensure our politicians never forget this priority.

  • We must hold the VA accountable by firing bad employees and protecting good employees who come forward as whistleblowers.

Congress must pass the Restore VA Accountability Act. It aims to restore the intent of the 2017 Accountability Act, which is now largely ineffective due to decisions from the Federal Circuit, the Federal Labor Relations Authority, and the Merit Systems Protection Board. They have defied Congressional intent and made the VA Accountability Act unusable for most of the VA workforce.

  • Veterans deserve to have choice in their healthcare. They have earned the right to receive quality care and shouldn’t be stuck in a failing VA healthcare system.

We support the Veterans’ ACCESS Act (Assuring Critical Care Expansions to Support Service members Act).

  • The Department of Defense must reinstate servicemembers who lost their job by refusing the COVID-19 vaccine. We support the current administrations position which states the vaccine mandate as “unfair, overbroad, and completely unnecessary burden” on servicemembers.

Grassroots

Veteran Action is a grassroots army of servicemembers, veterans, and military supporters to engage policymakers via our Veteran Action Center

This strategy is proven. We have passed historic VA reforms during President Trump’s first term. Our founder led a grassroots campaign to confirm Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense. This campaign recruited over 60,000 volunteers who contacted their lawmakers over 250,000 times in support of Hegseth and Trump’s cabinet nominees.

About the Founder

Mark Lucas built some of the largest and most effective grassroots efforts in the conservative movement. Lucas served as the Executive Vice President of the Article III Project. He conducted a media blitz defending Pete Hegseth and the rest of President Trump’s cabinet. This effort recruited over 60,000 volunteers who contacted their lawmakers over 250,000 times.

As executive director of Concerned Veterans for America, he worked with President Trump and Congress to pass two of the most historic reforms in veteran health care: the VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act and the VA MISSION Act.

Lucas served as Senior Vice President at Americans for Prosperity, overseeing a grassroots network of 36 state chapters. Under his leadership, AFP conducted over 2 million citizen contacts in support of Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation. His leadership produced the largest grassroots activity in organizational history that led to election and policy victories.

Lucas served as an infantry officer in the Iowa Army National Guard and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Ranger School. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star Medal in Afghanistan during the deadliest year of Operation Enduring Freedom. Lucas voluntarily deployed to South Korea during the height of tensions between the United States and North Korea.

  • Pete Hegseth Will Make The Pentagon Great Again

“Pete Hegseth has the combat leadership experience, academic pedigree, and profound love of country necessary to make our military great again. I served with him in the 34th Infantry Division and succeeded him in leading Concerned Veterans for America, and I wholeheartedly endorse his nomination to be our next secretary of defense.”

  • Iowa soldier says 'warrior class' can fix Washington

“I believe the warrior class can fix the problems that have been created in the country by the political class.” Lucas said his goal is to encourage veterans to “re-up in a different way.”

“Usually we say re-up as in reenlist, or stay in.  I want veterans to re-up in a different way, to become engaged in policy matters in their local community, on the statewide level, on the federal level.” Read more at the Des Moines Register.

  • Bring fiscal responsibility to defense spending

President Donald Trump has promised numerous times to strengthen America’s military. Yet if he hopes to keep this vow, he must tackle a critical issue that’s often overlooked: wasteful spending at the Pentagon that endangers our national security and the men and women who wear the uniform…. The first step is to audit the Pentagon.
